Kuala Pilah: Taman Rekreasi Ulu Bendul

A river we must go.

It was one of those weekends where we decided to visit our friends’ home town in Negeri Sembilan, just an hours’ drive from Kuala Lumpur. I have been to this state but have never truly explored its inner roads, places or glorious minang food. On this particular day our friend Izar took us to the Ulu Bendul Recreation Park which was about 20km away from Seremban town and located in the Angsi Forest Reserve area. This was my first time knowing about the place let alone visiting it.

We arrived at the Ulu Bendul wooden archway and drove in a bit more to where the park was located. We parked in front of a row of shops selling swimming floats of all colours and shapes. We didn’t need any for the day as it would be more of a feet dipping activity and breathing in the clean fresh air. There were already families getting out of their cars bringing with them mats and tins of food for a picnic at the riverside. It reminded me of when my parents would take us out for picnics near waterfalls or parks for the same reason and I’m glad that this leisure activity is still taking part in the lives of our society.

Cooling place from the hot sun.

If ever the weather was hot on that day, it cooled down immediately as we started walking inside the recreational park. Crossing a bridge to the river area we saw a big pool filled with water from the river (not from the tap) with splashing in and about excitedly. The water must have been cold because the kids were seen standing shivering a little before jumping back inside the pool. There were a few roofed rest area with tables and benches for families to put their belongings or picnic. Nearby were other facilities available in the park such as surau, public toilets, camping sites, observation tower and a cafe in case anyone gets hungry.

We walked further in, following the rocks covered in green moss and footpath to a river area which came from the top of the hill all the way to where we stood. We chose our spot just like everyone else, with rocks to sit on while we dipped our feet in the cold water. It was really cold I’m telling you and cooled us down immediately. People were seen going in and out of the river having their food, taking a nap or a stroll around the park. It’s such a nice place to spend the weekend with family and friends as it definitely takes you away from the busy city life.
