Kota Kinabalu: End of Day 2

PHILIPPINE NIGHT MARKET

The journey gets even better when night falls in Kota Kinabalu town. Opposite Le Meridien hotel is a big market which they call a Philippine Market selling all sorts of handicrafts & souvenirs. But the best mind you is not from the ‘I love KK’ t-shirts or bags or paraphernalia. The best came from the rows of fresh grilled seafood which we could choose for our dinner.

You can even bring your own drinks (alcohol, teh tarik whatever) and sit among the locals to savor the freshly grilled ikan parisotong & prawns. The array of fresh fish up for grabs. Just make sure you choose the one that is enough for you and avoid wastage. Do bargain but do it reasonably as this is a market after all.. how cheap can you get? Prawns come in many different sizes which you should choose too. I took the ones with 5 on a stick because it’s easier to eat.

You could try the larger ones because my aunt says it’s really good and better than the one server in a 5 star restaurant. He he. She must be really hungry. It doesn’t matter where you sit because it will be together with strangers who will politely ask you to pass the condiments, the tissue, the crackers and such. They even say hi and chit chat with you while trying to wipe the sweat off the forehead. We ended up with smoke smell clothes & hair but it was worth every single bite! I’d rather walk here and eat this everyday then eat at those fancy restaurants. Might as well help the local fisherman earn his income. Good night folks.
