Living Abroad: Cambodia Dreams with dbk Community

Kids drawing their Cambodia Dreams.

Before the Pchum Benh holidays, Forte Insurance Cambodia had sponsored a drawing contest for the children in the city. It was called the “Cambodian Dreams”, where participants had a chance to come up with their own idea of how the future of the country would look like. I had a chance to observe the event since our company was involved in this project.

It was a good turn-out as children and students of all ages came to join the event. I was surprised at the commitment level of these participants who came with their own bag of colour pencils, markers, and paintbrushes. They were so focused in drawing their vision, until evening.

The event was organized with the dbk Community, an art space that is opened to all creative and artists in the city. They teach art to the local children here and had their teachers supporting the event for the day. I could see the different level of effort put by these kids as some were really focusing on winning the prize while others were just there for fun.

What art means to these students.

Although we had to explain to the participants what the drawing contest theme meant, they took it with an open mind and drew their ambitions, landscape, families. The level or participation was good but it could be improved further with an annual event follow-up. With amazing prizes, these children were also  given an opportunity to have their artwork published in a Forte Insurance calendar.

Perhaps in the next event, we would be able to unearth more talents in the Kingdom from a young age.
